BIXI Bike Trailers Are Now Available to Rent in Montréal

Compatible with all bicycles, BIXI trailers can be rented via a mobile app for your hauling needs.

BIXI Montréal is breaking the mold of traditional bike share operators by adding trailers to its system, giving residents the power to haul more and rely on cars less.

This month, BIXI launched a fleet of trailers as part of its bike share system offerings, making it North America’s first trailer service integrated directly into a bike share system. These trailers carry a maximum load of about 110 pounds (50 kg) and are intended to transport objects (not people).

Trailers can offer more options to women and caregivers who are more likely to carry goods, such as groceries, and open up new opportunities for delivery service workers for urban bike delivery.

The Québec-made trailers are compatible with both BIXI bike models (regular and e-bikes) as well as personal bicycles.

“We’re not just offering bike sharing, we’re creating a true urban mobility ecosystem,” said Christian Vermette, general manager of BIXI Montréal, in a recent press release.

As of July 21, 10 trailers have been deployed across BIXI’s various stations, with 50 total to be available by summer’s end. Trailers can be rented via BIXI’s mobile app, and like the system’s bikes, trailer locations are shown on a map in real time, displaying all of the stations where trailers are available.

BIXI Trailer Rates (in CAD)

For members : $4 for 4 hours, then $0.20/minute after 4 hours

For occasional users : $8 for 4 hours, then $0.20/minute after 4 hours, with a $100 refundable deposit
