Are you increasing access to shared micromobility for communities of color and low-income communities? Apply for a mini-grant!

Mini-Grant Guidelines 2026

Mini-grants are funded by PeopleForBikes as part of the Better Bike Share Partnership and range from $10,000 to $20,000. 

To be eligible for funding, your project must be implemented in 2026 and focused on increasing access to and use of shared micromobility in low-income and BIPOC communities.

Examples of projects that will be considered for funding: 

  • Events such as a ride series, tours in partnership with local businesses, shared micromobility demos, or other community-based events
  • Outreach and engagement efforts paired with data collection and analysis 
  • Community ambassador programs
  • Awareness campaigns to promote discounted memberships
  • Programs that serve older adults, immigrants, people with disabilities, or youth
  • Marketing initiatives or art projects 
  • Partnerships with local schools

BBSP will not fund:

  • Physical stations, docks, bicycles, scooters, or equipment related to the function of the shared micromobility system
  • Bicycle infrastructure, such as bike lanes or paths
  • Bike libraries, bike clubs, bike giveaways, or programming that is not open to the public
  • General operating costs
  • Projects that propose to use a majority of funds to purchase passes
  • Systems that have not yet launched

Eligible Applicants:

BBSP will support nonprofits, community-based organizations, cities, transit agencies, and shared mobility operators. Partnerships of these organizations are preferred. 

Grant Submission:

The Mini-grant application is intended to be brief, with a short turnaround for award and implementation. The application is available on the Better Bike Share Partnership website here: https://betterbikeshare.org/grants-and-grantees/

Timeline:

Late January – Application opens

March 2nd – Applications are due by 5:00p.m. MST

Projects must be implemented in 2026

Grantee Requirements:

BBSP requires that grantees work with the Better Bike Share Partnership communications team to share stories of their work, provide images for use in blogs, articles, and other publications, and collaborate on other efforts to broadly share their learnings and successes.
