May is National Bike Month! It’s a month-long celebration, promoted by the League of American Bicyclists, to celebrate the joys and benefits of cycling while encouraging folks to get riding. For 2026, the focus is on showcasing all the ways and days people bike, whether it’s to work, for leisure, solo, or with friends and family.

Consider using your local bike share for Bike to Work Week on May 11-17, 2026, and Bike to Work Day on Friday, May 15!

POGOH in Pittsburgh has programming all month long, including Biking 101 & 102 classes, a free ride day on Bike to Work Day (May 13th) so you can try POGOH for free, Community Slow Roll group rides, and their annual Le Tour de Donut, which is a ride/snack tour stopping at different donut pop-ups throughout the city.

In Philadelphia, Indego is offering a discount all month long on the 30-day pass for just $1 with the code INDEPRO26. They are also partnering with Bean 2 Bean Cafe Bike to Work Week for a week of giveaways. On Bike to Work Day on May 13th, Indego is hosting a morning ride at City Hall with Independence Blue Cross, the Bicycle Coalition, Philly Bike Train, and elected officials.

Reddy Bikeshare in Buffalo, NY, is hosting weekly Thursday Bike Breakfasts this month with free oatmeal and coffee from GObike Buffalo. You can earn $10 in riding credit when you share what bikeshare has meant to you in honor of Reddy Bikeshare’s 10th anniversary in July.

And no matter where you live, there are a variety of Bike Month Bingo cards you can use as motivation to ride this month. Check out this one from PeopleForBikes

Here are BBSP’s recommendations for how to celebrate Bike Month:

  • Pedal Partner – You don’t have to ride alone; curate a playlist and share some fresh air with a friend.
  • Low stress – Explore protected bike lanes, off-street trails, or try commuting with friends!
  • Springtime – Use your local bike share system to attend the spring festivals in your city.
  • Mode Shift – Challenge yourself to replace two car trips per week with bike share.
  • Community – Join a bike share group ride in your community (or organize your own!)
  • Bikes and Bakeries – Local bakeries are delightful destinations for any bike ride.
  • Mobility Mix – Integrate bike share with your other forms of transportation.
  • Foodie Bike Tour – Plan a route with stops for appetizers, main course, and dessert.
