Following a new contract, Trinity Metro Bikes is transforming commutes and fulfilling the vision of the “Moving a Million Plan.”

At the beginning of the year, Fort Worth’s bike share system, Trinity Metro Bikes, underwent a complete overhaul with all new bikes, stations, a new app, a new pricing structure, and a $2.3 million boost of funding through a contract with Lyft Urban Solutions. The system now has 400 new bikes, 10% of which are traditional pedal bikes, and 57 new stations that are a mix of solar-powered and grid-tied stations.

The new pricing structure is as follows: the Annual Pass costs $125 for the year and includes unlimited 60-minute rides, the Flex Pass is $25 for 200 minutes of ride time, and the Pay-As-You-Go Pass is $2 for 30 minutes of ride time.

Trinity Metro partners with Texas Christian University and the University of North Texas Health to offer students free 60-minute rides. Additionally, they provide a $10 annual pass for EBT-qualifying residents to enjoy unlimited 60-minute rides. Most recently, Trinity Metro collaborated with the City of Fort Worth’s Transportation and Public Works Department to offer free bike share to all city employees.

“This was a collaborative decision,” says Shawn Tubre, director of Trinity Metro Bikes/Wellness. “The city was aware of our other sponsorship programs throughout the city, and as a team, Trinity Metro and the City of Fort Worth worked together to create a sponsorship that would benefit everyone involved.”

This is a renewable annual agreement for which the city pays a yearly sponsorship fee. Trinity Metro is working to expand its reach to other organizations to provide this same benefit to more residents in Fort Worth. According to Tubre, Trinity Metro Bikes is used for both recreation and transportation, which includes commuting, first/last-mile connections, errands, and more.

“As a rapidly growing city, we face traffic concerns,” says Tubre. “Our bike share system is quickly becoming a viable option for residents and visitors to navigate the city without the hassle of traffic.

To get the word out about Trinity Metro Bikes, the operator hosts monthly pop-up events at one of their stations, offering coffee and engaging with residents surrounding the station to answer questions about the service.

The city of Fort Worth is currently working on its Moving a Million Plan, the first citywide comprehensive transportation plan. The plan’s goal is to create a safer, more resilient, and more equitable transportation system by 2050 under one unified vision.

“Alternative transportation plays a significant role in the Move a Million Plan. Trinity Metro Bikes, along with all the other transportation solutions offered by Trinity Metro, aims to address the traffic and infrastructure challenges faced by a rapidly growing city,” says Tubre. “Our plan is to expand our bike share footprint to ensure the presence of bike stations near your starting and ending points, providing you with convenient access to bike share for your daily commute.”
