Apply by March 10 for this year’s mini-grant round. PeopleForBikes is accepting proposals for grants of $2,500-$10,000 from nonprofit community-based organizations, cities, transit agencies, shared mobility operators, or a combination of these partners.
While the cold winter keeps many of us bundled up in hibernation, shared micromobility systems are already gearing up for spring and the anticipated rise in ridership. With that in mind, BBSP is thrilled to announce that the next round of our mini-grants is officially open!
BBSP mini-grants are funded by PeopleForBikes as part of the Better Bike Share Partnership and range from $2,500-$10,000. They’re available to nonprofit community-based organizations, cities, transit agencies, shared mobility operators, or a combination of these partners to support focused, time-bound programs or events in 2025 that work to make bike and scooter share more equitable and inclusive.
To be eligible for funding, your project must be focused on increasing access to and use of shared micromobility in low-income and BIPOC communities.
In 2024, we awarded nine grants to innovative projects that implemented educational programming, ambassador initiatives, free passes, and more. In Hawai’i, HIBIKE expanded ridership among island residents through strategic outreach, education, and a partnership with the local transit agency. In Detroit, MoGo revitalized its ambassador program to deepen its engagement with the community. Meanwhile, Suma, a Portland-based app, supported frontline communities by offering free rides, connections to local farmers markets, and food vouchers.
We will consider a wide variety of projects, so get creative! Here are some examples of projects that would qualify for funding:
- Events such as a ride series, tours in partnership with local businesses, shared micromobility demos, or other community-based events
- Ambassador or liaison programming such as a learn-to-ride event or events focused on connecting people to access pass programs
- Events and programs that serve older adults, immigrants, people with disabilities, and or youth
- Marketing initiatives or art projects such as bike wraps
- Partnerships with high schools to connect youth with shared micromobility
BBSP will not fund:
- Physical stations, docks, bicycles, scooters, or equipment related to the function of the shared micromobility system
- Bicycle infrastructure such as bike lanes or paths
- Bike libraries, bike clubs, bike giveaways, or programming that is not open to the public
- General operating costs
- Projects that propose to use a majority of funds to purchase passes
- Systems that have not yet launched
Mini-grant applications are due by March 10, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. MT. Grant awardees will be notified in early April.
