Ultimately\, we can extend decision-making power and give everyone a seat at the table. \nThe 2022 National Shared Mobility Summit is where we can all come together.  \nSUMC is working to replace car-centric transportation with people-focused shared mobility to fight climate change\, promote equity\, and strengthen community. \nAt the Summit\, we want to offer the opportunity to take steps collectively to meet these goals. At speeches\, workshops\, panels\, and field trips\, we will try to break down silos and bridge gaps. To lay the groundwork for successful partnerships and mobilize toward multimodal transportation systems. We will explore new technologies that promise it all\, and from behavior change to funding\, we can begin to address the challenges that hold us back. \nWith focus and collaboration\, we can take action.

DESCRIPTION:Hindsight is an annual conference on urban planning through an equity lens\, organized and run by the American Planning Association New York Metro Chapter’s Diversity Committee (DivComm). Each year\, Hindsight selects a theme\, often around a significant urban planning and equity-related milestone\, to not only shed light on the discriminatory history of planning and its role in shaping today’s inequitable places\, but also to highlight planning as a means of achieving more inclusive\, just\, and equitable communities. This year will be Hindsight’s fifth and final year. \nThe two day\, virtual event will take place from November 4-5\, 2021. Hindsight will focus on diversity and social equity not solely as a topic at a conference\, but as a lens through which all planning and community development should be implemented. \nHindsight 2021: Re-Emergence Re-Imagined \nAs we slowly emerge from a global pandemic\, 2021 continues to challenge us to balance the duality of gratitude and grief in the world. There has been greater hope inspired by community mutual aid and resourcefulness\, new leadership\, as well as the country’s reopening. However\, economic recovery and access to vaccines remain unequal; police brutality and violence on Black\, Brown\, Asian\, Trans\, and Disabled lives continues; and militarization abroad persists. It has become undeniable that the experiences of oppressed peoples around the world are interconnected and rooted in white supremacy\, racial capitalism\, and U.S. imperialism. At this year’s conference\, we acknowledge the collective resistance and ingenuity sprouted in the midst of grief and call to re-imagine our communities’ re-emergence. \nOur liberation\, self-determination\, and autonomy are possible. In this fifth and final year of Hindsight™\, let us create space to re-imagine what an equitable future truly for us and by us looks like\, to guide our re-emergence. We call on planners and policy makers to shatter the failed systems that perpetuate racism and ableism\, and\, together with communities\, build the foundation needed for us to collectively thrive. Like a seedling emerging between the cracks\, let us root into the resistance and solidarity of our ancestors and manifest a future of our wildest dreams–where the impossible is possible.

Produced by Project for Public Spaces\, the event consists of 50+ participant-led breakout sessions and locally-led workshops\, as well as opportunities for experiential learning by walking and biking through the streets and other public spaces of the host city. \nIn 2020\, due to complications related to Covid-19\, our in-person event in Indianapolis had to be postponed to 2021\, and our 2020 program was brought entirely online. Due to the success and increased accessibility offered by that shift\, 2021’s event will take place in Indianapolis as a hybrid event so that participants can take advantage of the benefits of both formats and plan their schedules accordingly given the continuous challenges posed by Covid-19. \nOur hybrid program will feature everything you’d expect from our usual event including general sessions\, dozens of breakout sessions\, locally-led mobile workshops\, and social hours\, although we expect the in-person event to be more intimate and experiential — we will be getting outdoors as much as possible!

We’ve renamed the summit to reflect a big goal: to create a space where advocates and professionals discuss and advance the often overlapping but sometimes distinct and different needs of people who bike\, walk and roll.  \nWe believe this change is crucial in building a just transportation system\, and inclusive advocacy movement across the state. We want to harness the intersectionality of planning\, advocacy\, and education for all types of active users to realize a transportation system that works for all – regardless of how we get around.  \nBecoming the Bike\, Walk\, Roll Summit marks an evolution and a goal\, and one we might not achieve in year one. The summit will hopefully serve as the start of a longer process of integrating conversations surrounding biking\, walking\, and rolling. In making this change\, we recognize that this summit will not be perfect\, and this serves as the first step in a longer journey to true intersectionality and shared space.  \nActive transportation advocacy is a space that belongs to all users of active transportation\, and should be a place in which bicycle\, pedestrian\, and disability advocates can learn from and share with each other and plan for a future that works for all of us.”

SUMMARY:Webinar: A National Scan of Bike Share Equity Programs: Best Practices and Lessons Learned
DESCRIPTION:Connecting with cities and bike share operators from across the United States\, Portland State University conducted a nationwide scan on what programs and initiatives were running to address equity in bike share. The report “National Scan of Bike Share Equity Programs” documents responses from over 70 bike share systems. This resource will help cities and operators navigate the range of actions that have been implemented to make bike share systems more equitable\, examine successful strategies employed across the U.S.\, and understand how those successes (and challenges) are being measured and articulated. In doing so\, we hope the report helps bike share systems learn from the experiences of others\, innovate\, and more quickly move toward greater equity. The research team will be joined by a bike share operator to discuss what they learned\, best practices\, and where they see the future of bike share equity programs headed.

DESCRIPTION:Walk/Bike/Places strives to be the most informative and progressive active transportation conference in North America. Produced by Project for Public Spaces\, the event consists of nearly 100 participant-led breakout sessions and locally-led workshops\, as well as opportunities for experiential learning by walking and biking through the streets and other public spaces of the host city. \nDue to COVID-19\, this year Walk/Bike/Places will take place entirely online. The program will still feature a wide range of breakout sessions\, as well as the more inventive session formats you have come to expect from Walk/Bike/Places. Along with reduced registration fees\, they hope that this shift online will also reach an even broader audience.
